Jojoba oil has been in existence for long. However it was only in the 1970s and 1980s that it gained more popularity when hunting of whales was outlawed during this period. Various kinds of animal waxes and sperm whale oil were being used as moisturizers especially in the cosmetic industry. After whaling was banned, manufacturers were on the search for a natural moisturizer of another type. Jojoba oil was found towork for skin ailments of all types including dryness. It was in 1882 that the oil was discovered in California. In 1986, the very first Global Conference on Jojoba and its uses was held in Tuscon at the University of Arizona.

Generally, using oil on sunburns is not a good idea as heat can get trapped inside the skin. However technically, jojoba is a waxy substance which heals as well as protects the skin. Simply take a few drops of jojoba oil and cover the sunburn area with it.

While shaving, jojoba oil can be used to reduce the risk of scraping and cutting. It provides a smooth texture to the skin, moisturizes naturally and heals the skin.

Moisturizer For Chapped Lips 

Chapped lips can be moisturized with jojoba oil to get lush looking soft lips. The oil being protecting in nature, it is an excellent moisturizer. Beeswax and jojoba oil can be mixed together to make a jojoba lip balm. No need to use the regular petroleum jelly when this oil with waxy structure is easily available. Lost moisture from the lips gets replenished by applying jojoba oil. Moisture is locked in the lips for hours together thus making the lips supple as ever.

Jojoba oil lip balm is easily made at home. Just 2 teaspoons of jojoba oil, 2         teaspoons of pure beeswax (coconut oil can also be used) and 3-4 drops of any natural flavor (rose, strawberry, peppermint, apple etc) is needed. Take a double boiler and melt the beeswax in it. Next add the jojoba oil in it, melt it well, mix and then turn off the heat. Next add additional flavor and transfer into a small glass jar. Allow to cool and place in refrigerator. (If coconut oil is used instead of beeswax then ensure to keep the temperature below 75°F.

Cold and wind can have drying effects on lips. To protect lips, simply dab some jojoba oil onto them.

Removes Ugly Circles Under The Eyes

A person can look sick and drowsy with panda looking eyes. Trying out jojoba oil is a great alternative. Under-eye dark circles can be effectively reduced with jojoba oil. Take chamomile oil and jojoba oil in equal quantities and mix. Massage this blend under the eyes gently for about 10-15 minutes. Then wash off well with warm water. Inflammation below the eyes gets reduced with jojoba oil. In the process, the skin attains an even tone as well.

Moisturizing Lip Balm 

Jojoba oil is truly moisturizing. It is because of this that it can be used as a moisturizer for lips. Jojoba oil can be used on its own or in homemade lip balms This oil is a common ingredient used in making DIY lip balms. A DIY lip balm can be quickly made by melting some shea butter or cocoa with jojoba oil. Then cool the mixture in tubes or lip balm tins.

Excellent Oil Balancer 

Putting oil on an oily skin may seem somewhat strange however jojoba oil does work wonderfully.  The oil works in two ways like oil cleansing. It clings to greasy oil on the skin and gently sweeps it away. It hydrates the natural sebum making sebaceous glands thus ensuring that they do not go into overdrive.

Over-washing the face could dry out the facial skin. In compensation, the sebaceous glands produce extra sebum which for oily skin, causes a vicious cycle. Production of sebum can be regulated with jojoba oil. By reducing oil, it balances the skin.
